Catherine Called Birdy Group

Please select two of the four journal prompts to complete in your notebook Your responses should be thoughtful, thorough, and you should use textual examples as evidence in your analysis.
1) “I think my curse was cursed. Aelis is gone from here, wedded to a baby. George sighs and suffers. And still he is not mine but marries some fat Saxon widow. God’s thumbs. I might have better to fail. My guts are grumbling. I hope it is but a cold in my liver, but I fear it is guilt and remorse.” (85)
Describe a time when you felt guilt or remorse. What does guilt feel like? What caused you to feel remorse or guilt?
2) Find and explain two textual examples where the assumptions Catherine makes about an individual are wrong. Have you ever made assumptions about someone, and later changed your mind? Explain.
3) Birdy’s relationships change as the year progresses. What changes do you see in her relationship with her parents? Why do you think this happens? What is the result?
4) Fear affects people’s actions.
What does Birdy fear? Why? How does fear influence her decisions and personal reflections? What do you fear? Why? How was/is fear, or fear rhetoric, used in history or today’s world? Is fear healthy?
